October on the blog: The Beauty of October

Holding onto summer has well and truly gone but, you know, I’m not mad about it. October has got to be my favourite season, full of family traditions, cosy evenings and all the pumpkin spice a woman could want. It’s a month that feels homely and wholesome – and it’s the beginning of gathering friends and family together to celebrate.

As the years have gone on, I’ve gathered a wealth of family traditions that we do over the Autumn season. Strangely, we don’t have many traditions for other seasons of the year, but Autumn is a full calendar of family activities and I couldn’t be happier about it.

To name a few, here’s what we’ll be getting up to this October:

-       Pumpkin picking at a local farm

-       Collecting Autumn leaves for a front door wreath of orange and brown

-       Pumpkin spice coffee dates at Starbucks

-       Trick or treating

-       Halloween and/or light parties

-       Harvest festival

-       Foraging

Derby and Derbyshire in the Autumn is so beautiful, and this October I’ll be getting the kids outside for fresh walks amongst the beauty. Staunton Harold is a favourite of mine during this season and I love watching the forests start to fall away ready for winter. I can’t really describe what it does to me (awful for a writer, I know), but there is something about this time of the year that makes me feel so grateful for nature. I am literally speechless at how stunning everything becomes.

Autumn mostly feels like the calm before the storm. Christmas is looming and we’re starting to see it in stores and online, but October is a moment to rest before it begins. Whatever you’re doing this month I hope it is full of cosiness and beauty.
