What I want my Blog to Be...
In this process of re-branding (if you've been following me on my other platforms then you'll know that when I separated from my husband last year I made the move from being Hollie the Housewife to being Hollie and Life), I was able to take a minute to consider the ways in which I share content. I'm a big fan of anything new: a new notebook; a new season; a new week (you get my drift), and I love nothing more than taking a 'new' opportunity to fully overhaul everything and start afresh.
Previously, everything got shared on everything. Sometimes that worked, but mostly I found I had the same following across all platforms and people were just seeing the content multiple times and so not engaging. Whilst I'm not motivated entirely by engagement - though I am influenced by it because this is a business after all - I utilise it to structure the kind of content I create, and it quickly became confusing. I felt like I was stabbing in the dark, not entirely sure I knew what my audience wanted to see. I mean, there's a lot of my current content that is the same now, and as my audience grows so becomes the constant challenge of discovering the interests of my followers, but for me, finding structure in what each platform is bringing to the table is helpful.
My blog has always been about drama.
People have loved to read about my life and the things that make me tick. I don't mean that in a 'I go viral every time I share my life', because I don't, but there is a very obvious trend that happens when I write an excerpt on something that has pissed me off that week. You, dear readers, click and engage, and who am I to deny you that content?
This post in its rambly nature is outlaying what my platforms are going to look like. I am no longer going to share the same content across every platform, but instead make sure that you can access different material on the different sites. Youtube will be vlogs, routines, grocery hauls, and budgetting. Instagram will be snippets of daily life, reviews of places we've visited as a family, and picture updates of what's been going on. My facebook will be posts designed to chat with you - what have you been up to and what advice have you got for me? And my blog....that's where you can read, essentially, my diary.
I'm feeling more brazen now that I'm relaunching my writing space. I'm less bothered about 'fitting an aesthetic' or 'pleasing everyone'...I've been through too much of a journey to still be in my people-pleasing mindset, and it's about time I just got on with being who I am unashamedly. There's things to share, there's stories to write....and there's a hell of a lot of drama to spill.
Let the writing commence....
